Murder in the First Degree

Sermon Series: Ten Words for Living

Pastor Don Petker

Questions:

  1. This text speaks about murder. How is murder different from other kinds of killing?
  2. God says ’vengeance is mine’. Why are we so prone to want to take matters into our own hands?
  3. Jesus speaks directly to this command in the Sermon on the Mount. In what ways does he expand on (explain) the sixth commandment?
  4. In what ways do we ‘murder’ but leave the victim alive to live with a destroyed life?
  5. If God is Love, hatred, which is equated with murder in the Sermon on the Mount, is the direct opposite. How do we avoid sliding down the slippery slope of hatred, and live lovingly with our Christian brothers and sisters?
